Many of us know and LOVE the now-classic Koolulam rendition of “Al Kol Eileh”. (If you don’t, we ORDER you to watch it NOW.)
Recorded by Shlomi Shabbat and a cast of 12,000+ in honor of Israel’s 70th, their rendition is the best version of the Naomi Shemer classic you’ve ever heard.
Apparently the folks at USY – the youth group for Conservative Judaism in the USA – liked it as well. They liked it so much that they asked Koolulam to help them record their own pandemic-friendly version of the song.
The USY version of “Al Kol Eileh” features the Koolulam arrangement we’ve come to love, with teens from around the country singing in gorgeous harmony. From USY:
At USY’s 70th International Convention, USYers came together to build community in a much needed and very different way than we typically would. To close out IC, we came together with Koolulam, a social-musical initiative aimed at strengthening society. Their work is centered around musical performances created by convening large groups of individuals to form a uniquely collaborative musical creation. While we could not collaborate in person – we were able to create something beautiful with our USY community virtually. Al Kol Eileh is one of USY’s favorite ruach songs – symbolizing years of memories, friendships, experiences, and inclusion. It reminds us to savor the sweetness in life, even in times of struggle. We hope you enjoy.
Kol Hakavod to USY for a stunning performance, and for bringing more Israeli culture to US teens. Now THAT’S music to our ears!
