Upon winning the Eurovision Song Contest for Israel in 2018, a tearful Netta Barzilai told the worldwide audience, “thank you so much for choosing different.” And, musical genius aside, different she has been ever since.
Netta followed up her Eurovision-winning song “Toy” with two international hits, “Bassa Sababa” and “Nana Banana”. She also collaborated on a mostly-Hebrew song with Omer Adam, simply entitled “Beg”.
But today (February 7), after teasing us for a couple of weeks on Instagram with cartoonish photos of mayonnaise jars, Netta released her latest, greatest and strangest, “Ricki Lake”.
But Netta’s never had a problem with “strange”.
While the music video features Netta indulging (even bathing!) in a variety of unhealthy delicacies, the song’s lyrics stay true to the message Netta’s spread throughout the world. Be true to who you are, she urges, because It’s ok to be different.
“Baby I dance to my own damn drum
Netta Barzilai, “Ricki Lake”
And if they dont then they dumb dumb dumb.”
What do you think of Netta Barzilai’s new song?
