In the not-too-distant past, a new song by Israeli superstar duo Static & Ben-El Tavori would be a worldwide phenomenon. It would receive tons of attention on YouTube, quickly going viral among their fans around the globe.
But the times, they are a-changing.
With the boys focusing on their US music career these days, their YouTube channel is starting to attract an international following. They’re working hard to get as much exposure as possible for their international hit “Further Up” – a song they recorded with international hip/hop star Pitbull. The song has brought them a ton of attention, including appearances on “Good Morning America” and “Live with Kelly and Ryan”.
When someone searches for “Static and Ben-El” on YouTube, they want their big international hit to appear first. So when they release a new song in Israel, they’d rather not push “Further Up”…well, further down on the list of search results on YouTube.
So how did they resolve that problem? Their new French-themed song, “We”, does not appear on YouTube for anyone whose IP address is located outside of Israel.
That is, until some helpful YouTuber decided to post the song on his own channel, enabling us all to hear “We” – with a cameo appearance by Miri Mesika.
That is, until YouTube decides to take it down…
