The world awoke this morning (10/28) to a new song from superstar Israeli singer Idan Raichel. His latest creation is called “Katuv MiLemala” (written from above).

The story of the song, as explained by Idan on social media, is very interesting. Here’s a rough translation from the Hebrew:

“So this is the new song I’ve waited so long to share with you. A moment in time…a spontaneous, quick writing, early in the morning, and a quick sketch recording of piano and singing so I wouldn’t forget the song. [Producer] Stav Beger told me that I don’t need to re-record the song, that he could somehow produce what there was, and I went with him, and he created his world from it. Then Gavriel took a photo and grabbed a special moment, and Kathy took many photos from my personal life, and created her world. The entire song is a lesson in release, spontaneity, and in following your heart…to write it, to play it, to design it, and to release it to the light of day.”

Wow…an impromptu early morning recording of Idan’s “brain-dump” becomes a hit song! Yet more evidence that the man is a musical genius.

Idan is heading out for a series of concerts in North America in November. It’s probably a safe bet that this new song will be part of his repertoire.
