Their dreams came true after all.
The Shalva Band, a talented group of Israeli musicians with disabilities, competed earlier this year to represent Israel at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
They made it to the finals, but had to withdraw from the competition due to a Eurovision requirement to rehearse on Shabbat, the Jewish Sabbath.
Last night, they got their Eurovision moment after all…and what a moment it was.
With thousands of people in attendance in Tel Aviv, and millions and millions watching at home all over Europe, the Shalva Band gave the performance of a lifetime. They performed a very emotional rendition of “A Million Dreams” from the movie “The Greatest Showman”… and brought the house down.
Eurovision host Assi Azar welcomed the band to the stage. “And now, a very special moment I’ve been waiting for,” Assi began. “Meet Shalva, one of the most beloved musical acts here in Israel. And not because they inspire us to think differently about challenges and acceptance, not even because they represent everything we love about the human spirit. We love them for one simple reason: they make damn good music. Ladies and gentlemen, enjoy – the magic of Shalva.”
With the international exposure the band received last night, you can bet even bigger and better things are yet to come for the Shalva Band. We can’t wait to see where the group goes from here!
