As 2020 comes to a close (not a moment too soon!), radio stations around the world take time to reflect on the music of the year. And as usual, Galgalatz radio in Israel focuses on the international hits that they featured over the past 12 months.

It’s not unusual to hear these hit songs on Israeli radio. But what IS unusual is to hear your favorite Israeli singers singing them.

In preparation for their countdown of international hits, Galgalatz often invites Israel’s superstars to cover the songs of the year. And so, they asked Hanan Ben Ari to perform “Lonely” by Justin Bieber live on the air.

Hanan’s got a great voice, and makes any song sound good. He sounds a little funny while singing English, but that’s not really his fault. It was, however, interesting to hear kippa-clad Hanan throw in a bit of colorful language during the song – though these words are far less offensive to Israelis than to Americans.

Expect to see more Israelis singing 2020 English hits in the coming weeks.

While in the studio, Hanan also took the time to cover the famous Ehud Banai song, “Kulam Yod’im”.

In other Hanan Ben Ari news, his fun song “Im Tirtzi” received a hard-rockin’ makeover from a group called “Guy & Rotem”. “Im Tirtzi” was one of the hottest songs of the year, so if you like the original, this interesting cover is certainly worth wathing.
