Static & Ben-El collaborate with Pitbull for the biggest song of their career
Ever since they signed a $5 million recording contract with Capitol Records, Israeli superstars Static & Ben-El Tavori haven’t quite lit the recording world on fire.
Sure, they re-released two of their songs in English. “Silsulim” became, ahem, “Broke A$$ Millionaire”, and “Tudu Bom” kept it’s name with English lyrics and an appearance by Latin superstar J Balvin. They also made the rounds on American radio, with interviews at high-profile Top-40 stations such as Z100 in New York (who knew that DJ Shelley Rome was Israeli?).
Overall, however, it’s safe to say that Static & Ben-El aren’t yet household names outside of Israel.
But this new song could change everything. This time, they’ve teamed up with rapper Pitbull – an internationally-known music superstar who’s sold 100 million records worldwide (Source: Wikipedia). They’ve created a new song called “Further Up” that borrows liberally from another hit song, 1994’s “Here Comes the Hotstepper” by Ini Kamoze.
The new song is fun with a recognizable and singable chorus (though Ben-El seems to take a back seat this time, making room for Pitbull and Static to take center stage). Add a dizzying music video with attractive women…and maybe, just maybe, you have the makings of a hit.
And if Pitbull’s star power isn’t enough to give their career the boost it needs, I don’t know what is.
Is this that song that helps Static & Ben-El climb “Further Up” in the US music biz? Do you think this song with bring the boys’ career to the next level?
