Kobi Peretz once sang, “Only in Israel: I have a little car, but still can’t find a parking spot.” (“Rak B’yisrael” – listen below)
So what does a true Israeli do when they can’t find a place to park? Create your own parking spot, and park in the middle of the road!
My daughter Ellie, 16, is in Israel this summer on the Yad B’yad Summer Program. Yad B’yad is a program in which teens from the US travel throughout Israel along with individuals with special needs. They spend the summer exploring their homeland, learning about Israel while forming strong bonds with all participants. And of course, they have a ton of fun.
At one point on the tour, the kids’ bus encountered a problem. A car was parked too far into the road, and the bus could not pass through.
So the kids did what anyone would do.
A few adventurous teens – including my daughter (the one with the blue backpack) – got off the bus and PICKED UP THE CARS to move them!
With the creatively-parked cars out of the way (hopefully unscathed), the bus could safely continue on its journey throughout the Holy Land.
Yup. Only in Israel.
