In 1978, Yigal Bashan released “V’David Yefeh Einayim” – one of his most well-known songs ever. With the words of the Tanach (Hebrew Bible) at its foundation, the humorous song transforms the Biblical King David into an international dancing superstar.
This week, the A-WA sisters transport us back to 1978 – with a new take on the song that is completely Middle-Eastern, and completely 21st century. It’s also a lot of fun.
The Haim sisters of A-WA, Tagil, Liron, and Tair, have become world-famous for singing in Yemenite. This time, however, it’s nice to hear their beautiful voices blending in harmonic Hebrew. The song was produced by “Guy V’yahel”, a popular duo in contemporary Israeli music.
The song is the second to be released from the upcoming “Sharim Yigal Bashan” tribute album, to be released next month. The first, Shlomi Shabbat’s emotional take on “Itach”, was well-received on Israeli radio stations a few months ago. It’s part of a project to pay tribute to the late singer, who took his life in 2018.
